…a Bergen County, New Jersey, charity dedicated
to helping the homeless make the transition to independent living…

A Message from the President of the DACKKs Group

There is a vast network of agencies ready and able to help the homeless and special needs populations find temporary shelter and develop the life skills necessary to sustain their independent living. But with the current shortage of decent and affordable housing in New Jersey, independence remains elusive.

Families can blossom when they have a place of their ownThe need for shelter is fundamental. Having a decent, affordable place to live allows the homeless and special needs populations to focus on the other issues in their lives. Persons living on the street or in temporary shelters with no place to call their own cannot hope to gain the dignity that will support them in their efforts to become contributing members of our communities. They need a base from which to get started, the privacy of personal space, the stability of a place of their own.A home with dignity

Based in Ramsey, New Jersey, the DACKKs Group works collaboratively with social service agencies in New Jersey to identify and house individuals and families ready to make the transition toward self-sufficiency and independent living. Prospective tenants are referred to the DACKKs Group by the agencies that are already providing them with support services, helping them to stabilize their lives and focus on self-sufficiency. As they become more self-sufficient, A place of their own can put a smile on anybody's facethey may move on to their own selected housing, making way for others to begin their transition. Those who demonstrate they are able to take on the responsibilities of homeownership may be offered the opportunity to buy their rental unit with the help of low cost loans. Some may need help indefinitely.

The DACKKs Group was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in January 2001. The Board of Directors relies heavily on the support and dedication of volunteers and on grants –federal, state, county and private foundation- which, in the seven years of our existence, allowed us to apply nearly ninety percent of your donations directly toward financially supporting our existing projects and expanding our housing stock. We have been fortunate to receive many in-kind donations that not only allow us to rehabilitate and furnish the units we purchase but help us to cover administrative costs of the operations as well. We are a pay-as-we-go organization focused on meeting our commitments responsibly and responsively. We rely on volunteers to supply us with their time, skills and talents, and donated goods to support the work that we do. Won't you take some time to find out how you can help?
