Our November fundraiser was our most successful yet. We were pleased to honor Richard Brown, Executive Director of Monarch Housing Associates, for his years of volunteer service to our organization. Monarch Housing is a non-profit corporation dedicated to the "right to housing" for all persons with disabilities and to the development of permanent, affordable and supportive housing opportunities for consumers of mental health services, the developmentally disabled and the homeless.

Monarch Housing assists consumers, providers and family organizations to develop, manage and operate permanent, affordable and supportive housing for people with disabilities. After first helping us secure our status as a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization, Mr. Brown has been instrumental in helping us to secure major funding for acquisition and operating expenses.

Our second honoree, Cynthia, is our very first –and longest renting- tenant. Five years ago, she and her then four year old daughter came to us after having lived for a year and a half in a shelter because she could not find a place that she could afford to rent. Her focus and determination throughout her tenancy has seen her through some rocky times but she attributes her continued success to having the stability of her own home.

Our new year is booking up quickly.

  • We just received word of our successful application of another HUD grant
for funds to purchase five units to house the chronically homeless.

  • After receiving a grant award last year from the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York,
we have been working diligently to complete the projects it supports:
new roofing and siding on our two family homes, a new heating system,
emergency repairs to several bathrooms and assorted repairs to all of our properties.
The money was a "just in time" gift for us, as some of these expensive improvements
could not have been made without sacrificing our ability to move ahead with a new purchase.

  • Thanks to a grant from the state Department of Community Affairs, one of our units will be subsidized for operating expenses.

  • Last year's challenge grant - from the Domain Fund - to raise $35,000 before October 2006 was exceeded by nearly $5,000.
Our success continues to beget success: this year, the Domain Fund has challenged us to raise $40,000.
        Fundraising plans are already underway.

Our work continues. Your support has been tremendous. We rely on it continuing and never take it for granted. Thank you for being such an important part of our effort
